Shelton Powell launches a public alert on the operational blind spots that stall ecommerce brands

Sep 26, 2026

Shelton Powell, founder and CEO of Cart Capital, is releasing a self-check list for ecommerce operators to run against their own businesses before they scale further.

ORLANDO, FL, September 26, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Shelton Powell is publishing a short self-check for ecommerce operators. It is a list of six questions built from what Cart Capital sees repeatedly when it steps into a brand's backend for the first time. The goal is simple: give an operator a way to check their own infrastructure before spending more money to grow it.

Cart Capital works across business setup, supplier relationships, media buying, and backend operations for ecommerce brands. Powell built the list from patterns his team runs into across that work, not from any single client.

"Most operators find out their infrastructure is weak the same way," Powell said. "They scale, and the thing that was quietly broken breaks louder."

Why a self-check instead of a service pitch

Powell said he wanted something an operator could run alone, without booking a call or hiring anyone.

"If you can catch the problem yourself, catch it yourself," he said. "The list isn't there to sell anything. It's there because most people don't know what to check until something already went wrong."

The six questions

1. Can someone else run this without you for a week? If the answer is no, the brand is running on one person's memory instead of a system. Powell said this is the first thing his team checks when they take on a new account.

2. Do you know your numbers without opening five tabs? If margin, ad spend, and fulfillment cost live in different places and never get reconciled, decisions get made on guesses.

3. What happens if your main supplier disappears tomorrow? Powell said too many brands have no answer to this. "One supplier, no backup, no plan. That's not a business, that's a bet."

4. Is your creative strategy tied to a system, or to whoever is free that week? He said creative that isn't run through a repeatable process produces inconsistent results, and inconsistent results are expensive to diagnose.

5. Could you explain your fulfillment process in three sentences? If it takes longer than that, Powell said it usually means the process was never actually designed. It grew.

6. When something breaks, do you have a documented fix, or do you rebuild from scratch every time? This is the one Powell said matters most. "The brands that last aren't the ones that never break. They're the ones that get better at fixing the same category of problem, instead of relearning it from zero."

Who this is for

Powell said the list is aimed at operators past the early stage, the ones who already have revenue but haven't stress-tested what's underneath it.

"Early on, you can hold a business together with hustle," he said. "Past a certain size, hustle stops covering for missing systems. This is meant to catch that gap before it costs you."

He added that the list isn't meant to diagnose everything. "It's six questions. If two or more make you uncomfortable, that's the signal to look closer, not the full answer."

What happens next

Powell said the self-check will be available through his channels, including the Cart Capital team directly, and that he plans to keep building out plainer, operator-level resources like it.

"There's a lot of noise in ecommerce advice," he said. "Most of it is either too vague to use or too complicated to finish. I'd rather put out something short that people actually run through."

Cart Capital currently operates with a team of more than 40 people and has been involved in building hundreds of ecommerce brands. Powell said the self-check reflects the same principle the company was built on.

"Systems, not hype," he said. "That's not a slogan for us, it's the actual difference between brands that hold up and brands that don't."
